Subcommittees
A majority of the Alliance events will be organized at the subcommittee level, around special interest groups. Obviously some events will be of primary interest and value to creatives or production specialists, some to sales and customer service representatives, and other to middle and upper management.
Subcommittees will be born out of common member concerns and interests. Current organizing subcommittees include:
Production Technologies
This is a venue for pressroom operators as well as those in post-production. The committee's gatherings represent opportunities to exchange ideas and trouble shoot situations and projects. Discussions of emerging technologies will be a primary focus as well, for areas of printing, bindery and finishing.
Digital Imaging
The interaction of designers, photographers, graphic artists and production managers with printing personnel has never been closer. This committee is dedicated to improving the transition from creative processes into production. PDF workflows, e-commerce technologies and color management are just a few examples of the emerging issues this committee will pursue.
Environmental
This committee offers a forum for staying current on environmental issues, especially for those for whom compliance is only part of their print shop job responsibilities. The group provides a sounding board for printers to collaborate regarding state and federal environmental laws, with topics such as record keeping, waste disposal and air emissions. The group has also established a critical working relationship with regulatory authorities in Lansing.
Workforce Development
This committee has developed a partnership with schools and counselors to introduce high school and even elementary students to the career potentials that our industry represents. Committee members have even found involvement a source for entry level recruiting. They also receive recognition at job fairs and in school mailings as participating employers and job sites where students can explore career opportunities through summer jobs, internships, job shadowing or even plant tours.
